Here is how to cope with adversity!
Sometimes life goes different than expected, in fact, worse. We’ve all been there.
So what can we do?
1️⃣ Get perspective!
Is it really so bad? Sometimes the shock of things going different is nearly as bad as the problem.
2️⃣ Pause!
We like a good pause. Maybe a pause is the most under-utilised tool we have to cope with things. However, just give yourself some time to compute what just happened.
3️⃣ Accept!
Whatever happened, you can’t change it (unless you are a time-traveler). Yes, you can totally let an emotion out at this point (maybe even a swear word can be helpful) and then move to
4️⃣ Reflect.
Whatever happened is water under the bridge but if a similar situation arises, what would you change in your behaviour next time?
5️⃣ Reframe!
Reframing is an absolute super power and it’s a tool to be used as much as you can. So instead of thinking that everything is going downhill from here, think: “ok, this is a challenge I didn’t expect, but I have managed other bad stuff before and I can handle it.”
6️⃣ Yes, this is a little extra tip: GET HELP! You are not alone and if it’s to big a problem to tackle yourself, ask for support!
